I was asked to brand The Irish Times Women's Podcast when it was launched last year. We wanted to showcase the range of topics and illustrate that this is a podcast discussing, reaching out to and created by diverse women of all backgrounds and ages.
You can listen to the podcast here, I'd recommend it!
Public Displays of Emotion
Book design, art direction
This is a book collecting Róisín Ingle's columns for The Irish Times, which I designed as part of working with Irish Times Books. Working in house on the book design meant I was responsible for the cover design, art direction of the cover photoshoot, typesetting the book and designing promotional materials such as posters and online ads.
Book Design: Unthinkable
Bookd design, illustration
Another book designed as part of Irish Times Books – this is a collection of Joe Humphreys' Unthinkable column which takes a modern look at philosophical questions. The book also includes a number of illustrations of famous philosopher and a foreword from President Michael D Higgins, to whom the book was presented at Aras an Uachtaráin in November.
Irish Theatre Awards
I did a brand refresh for The Irish Times Theatre Awards in 2015, breathing some new life into the existing logo without overhauling it completely. This included designing ads and invitations as well as an animation of the logo to run on screens at the event itself in the National Concert Hall.
Customised typeface design
Project for the second Upstarts brief which was set by Slater Design: to design or customize a typeface that would be used as branding for a fictional pressed juice company called The Pressery. This is a custom version of Franklin Gothic featuring extended variations of certain characters and juicy, rounded drop-shaped stems and counters.
Branding, icon design
Logo design and promotion for a section of The Irish Times website called the Health Centre, a curated collection of health news and articles that can be used as a source of information for readers and a place to share personal experience. The site required sixteen icons representing different areas of concern.
Branding, illustration & design
Application for the ICAD Upstarts programme. The brief was to create branding for a useless invention; I chose a square-wheeled bicycle, titled the Rhombike (mostly for the pun opportunities).
I designed the branding for Food Month, a series of food-themed articles in The Irish Times in 2014 and 2015 – including the logo, advertising and online assets.
Single V. Married
Can you afford to stay single? An infographic illustrating the different costs facing single people and couples, for the Weekend Review of The Irish Times.
Home & Design
A new Irish Times supplement and design fair, both of which needed consistent branding. More to follow.
Census 2011 Special Supplement
One of my first big jobs at The Irish Times was designing a cover for a special supplement on the results of the 2011 Irish census. A good opportunity for some typographic illustration.
